Ingredients

For the Dumplings

  • 2 large large apples, peeled and cored Choose firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Feel free to experiment with other spices like nutmeg.
  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough Ensure it's rolled tightly around the apple wedges.
  • 1/2 cup butter Dot over the dumplings for added richness.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Sprinkle on top for sweetness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cut each apple into 8 wedges, ensuring they are of even size for consistent cooking.
  • Roll each apple wedge in the crescent roll dough, starting from the thick end and rolling to the point to enclose the apple.
  • Place the rolled dumplings in a greased baking dish, arranging them neatly.

Cooking

  • In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and cinnamon; bring this mixture to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Pour the hot syrup evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.
  • Dot the top of each dumpling with small pieces of butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the apples are tender.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
