Instructions
Preparation
In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Add the flour, melted butter, and salt to the bowl. Mix everything together until the dough comes together.
Knead the mixture for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth.
Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Shaping and Baking
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a breadstick shape.
Arrange the breadsticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover them, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Topping
While the breadsticks are baking, mix the melted butter with the garlic powder and salt.
Once the breadsticks are out of the oven, brush them with the garlic butter mixture immediately while they are still hot.
Notes
Store leftover breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze them for up to one month. Reheat in the oven or microwave until soft and warm. Experiment with adding herbs or spices for extra flavor.
