Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Add-ins

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Use freshly grated cheese for better melting quality.
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives Can substitute with other fresh herbs.
  • Oil or butter for cooking Use as needed for cooking.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix milk, egg, and melted butter until well combined.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed (don't overmix!).
  • Gently fold in the shredded cheese and chopped chives.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a bit of oil or butter.
  • Pour batter onto the skillet, cooking until bubbles form on the surface.
  • Flip and cook until golden brown on both sides.

Serving

  • Serve warm with your favorite toppings, like sour cream, bacon, or eggs.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm on a skillet or in the microwave.
