Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes, sliced
  • 1 pound Italian sausage links, sliced
  • 2 large bell peppers, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder, optional
  • Italian seasoning, optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Begin by slicing the potatoes, bell peppers, onion, and Italian sausage into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a large baking dish, combine the sliced potatoes, bell peppers, sliced onions, and Italian sausage. Ensure everything is evenly distributed.
  • Pour the heavy cream over the mixture in the baking dish. Stir gently to combine, making sure that the potatoes and sausage are well-coated.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to taste. Toss again to distribute the seasonings evenly.
  • Once everything is well mixed, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the top.

Baking

  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue to bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the potatoes are tender.
  • Once done, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a bit of heat, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture. Use a mandoline slicer for consistent potato slices that cook evenly. Experiment with different types of cheese, like cheddar or fontina, for varied flavor profiles. If you want a crispy topping, consider broiling the bake for an additional 1-2 minutes at the end, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
