  • 2 hoagie rolls or sub rolls The perfect base for this sandwich.
  • 1 tbsp butter For toasting the rolls.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Heat ½ tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add the onions and bell peppers, sautéing for 5 minutes until soft and caramelized. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the remaining ½ tbsp olive oil.
  • Add the sliced chicken, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
  • Cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly browned.
  • Lower the heat, return the onions and peppers to the pan.
  • Layer cheese slices on top of the chicken mixture. Cover for 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.
  • Butter the inside of the hoagie rolls and toast them in a separate pan for 2 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Fill each roll with the cheesy chicken mixture.
  • Serve hot with fries, chips, or a side salad.

Notes

Ensure the chicken is sliced thinly for quick cooking and tenderness. Don’t skip the caramelization step for the onions and peppers; it adds a depth of flavor. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses or add a sliced jalapeño for an extra kick. Consider making a large batch of the filling and freezing it for a convenient meal option later.
