Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 lb Sliced potatoes Cut evenly
  • 1 lb Ground beef Browned in a skillet
  • 1 medium Onion Diced
  • 1 can Tomato soup Condensed, 10.5 oz
  • 3/4 cup Beef broth
  • 1 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese Shredded or thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced
  • Salt To taste after adding sauces and cheese

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the potatoes into even pieces and parboil until nearly tender, then drain well.
  • Brown the ground meat fully in a skillet, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess fat before mixing with the sauce and other filling ingredients.

Assembly and Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly to ensure even cooking.
  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef along with diced onions and minced garlic until fragrant.
  • In a baking dish, create layers starting with the sliced potatoes, then add the browned beef mixture.
  • Pour the tomato soup and beef broth over the layers to keep everything moist and flavorful.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the potatoes are tender, checking after about 20–30 minutes.
  • Once out of the oven, sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top and return to the oven until melted and bubbly.
  • Rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For easier assembly, prepare components ahead and refrigerate. Warm individual portions covered to help retain moisture. Serve with a crisp salad or steamed vegetables.
