  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs At room temperature.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour For gluten-free, substitute with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sour cream Can be substituted with plain yogurt or buttermilk.
  • ½ cup chopped nuts Optional, use variety of choice.
  • ½ cup powdered sugar For dusting before serving.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  • If using, fold in the chopped nuts.

Baking

  • Drop tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Serving

  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

To keep your cookies fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze up to three months. Chill the dough if too sticky before baking.
