Creamy Crab and Shrimp Seafood Bisque

Ingredients

Seafood

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined Fresh or frozen shrimp can be used.
  • 1 lb crab meat Fresh crab meat is preferable.

Vegetables

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped

Other Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter Could use olive oil as a substitute.
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour For thickening the bisque.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add onion, garlic, celery, and carrot, and sauté until softened.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring continuously.
  • Gradually add water or broth and bring to a simmer.
  • Add shrimp and crab, and cook until the shrimp is pink and cooked through.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, and serve hot.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh seafood whenever possible. Don't rush the sautéing process; allowing the vegetables to soften enhances the overall flavor. Adjust the thickness of the bisque by adding more or less broth as needed. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives.
