  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Feel free to mix and match chocolate types.
  • 2 cups whole milk Full fat gives a richer custard.
  • 4 large large eggs Use fresh eggs for best results.
  • ½ cup granulated sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Consider adding almond extract for extra flavor.
  • ¼ teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor of the custard.
  • powdered sugar Powdered sugar, for dusting For serving, optional.

For Serving

  • Fresh berries or whipped cream Optional, serves as an elegant pairing.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Place croissant pieces evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle chocolate chips over and between the layers.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt until fully combined.
  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants. Gently press down with a spatula to help soak.
  • Allow the mixture to sit for 10–15 minutes so the croissants absorb the custard.

Baking

  • Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set. Tent with foil during the last 10–15 minutes if browning too quickly.
  • Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
  • Serve warm with fresh berries or whipped cream if desired.
