Ingredients

For the Dumplings

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut into 8 wedges each Choose tart apples for the best flavor.
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans refrigerated crescent roll dough

For the Sauce

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Use high-quality butter for the best flavor.
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Adjust sweetness to your preference.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 (12 oz.) can lemon-lime soda (7Up, Sprite, or Mountain Dew) Use good-quality soda for flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Wrap each apple wedge in crescent dough and arrange them in the greased dish, seam side down.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the granulated sugar and vanilla extract, but do not bring to a boil.
  • Evenly pour the butter mixture over the dumplings.
  • Pour the lemon-lime soda around the dumplings, avoiding pouring it directly on top.
  • Sprinkle ground cinnamon uniformly over the entire dish.

Baking

  • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden and bubbling.
  • Allow to rest for a few minutes and serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

Serve warm, and consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or drizzling with caramel sauce for extra indulgence. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
