Easy Turtle Bars

Ingredients

For the crust

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup butter, softened Ensure it is softened but not melted

For the topping

  • 1 cup pecan halves Consider toasting for added flavor
  • 2 thirds cup butter For melting with brown sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar For the topping mixture

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and packed brown sugar. Cut in the softened butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased baking dish to form a crust.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden.
  • While the crust is baking, melt the remaining butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until fully combined. Add in the pecans and mix well.
  • Pour the pecan mixture over the baked crust, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until set and golden brown.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them into squares.

Notes

For serving, consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerate for up to two weeks. For longer storage, wrap tightly and freeze for up to three months.
