Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and shortening together until creamy.
  • Gradually add the confectioners' sugar, mixing well until incorporated.
  • Add the milk or cream and vanilla extract, and continue to beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  • Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes.

Notes

Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For freezing, use a freezer-safe container, lasting up to three months. Re-whip after thawing for optimal texture.
