  • 2 cups French onion soup Use a good-quality for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup sour cream Can be substituted with Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese Can experiment with Gruyère or cheddar.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs For topping the casserole.
  • 2 tablespoons butter Melted, for mixing with breadcrumbs.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix together the French onion soup, sour cream, and half of the Swiss cheese.
  • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then place them in a greased casserole dish.
  • Pour the soup mixture over the chicken, ensuring it’s evenly covered.

Topping

  • In a separate bowl, melt the butter and mix it with the breadcrumbs.
  • Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the casserole.
  • Top with the remaining Swiss cheese.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the casserole is bubbly and golden.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze before baking for up to three months. Can add mushrooms or spinach for extra flavor, and substitute chicken breasts for thighs if preferred.
