Instructions

Caramelizing Onions

  • Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes or until caramelized.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and thyme if using.

Assembling and Cooking the Sandwich

  • In another skillet, heat the remaining butter over medium heat.
  • Assemble the sandwiches by layering caramelized onions and the cheese between two slices of bread.
  • Cook each sandwich in the skillet until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
