Homemade Apple Cobbler

Ingredients

For the apple mixture

  • 6 to 8 medium-sized medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix of sweet and tart apples recommended.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk Can substitute with almond milk or oat milk for dairy-free option.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted 1 stick of butter.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, 1 cup granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading evenly.
  • In another bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and melted butter until the mixture is smooth.
  • Pour the batter over the apple mixture in the baking dish, ensuring it covers the fruit evenly.

Baking

  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.
  • Once baked, remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For serving, enjoy it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. You can also add a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra sweetness. To store, cover it with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
