Ingredients

Bread Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour You can experiment with different types of flour.
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 tsp) Active dry yeast can be used but needs to be activated.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar Helps activate the yeast.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1.5 cups warm water Temperature should be around 110°F (43°C).
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Adds richness to the bread.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  • Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  • Place the loaf in a greased bread pan and let it rise for another 30-40 minutes.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  • Let cool before slicing.

Notes

Store bread at room temperature in a bread box or wrapped in a clean towel. For longer storage, freeze wrapped in plastic wrap.
