Homemade Soft Pretzels

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water Ensure it's warm but not hot.
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 4 cups flour Add more if dough is sticky.
  • 1 unit egg (for wash) Don’t skip this step.
  • as needed unit Salt for sprinkling Kosher salt is best.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Combine yeast, water, honey, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer.
  • Stir in flour and mix until the dough cleans the sides of the bowl (1-2 minutes).
  • The dough should be smooth and not sticky. Adjust flour as needed if dough is too sticky.
  • Start preheating the oven to 425 degrees F.

Shaping and Baking

  • Pull off pieces of dough and shape them into pretzel shapes.
  • Place shaped pretzels on lined or greased cookie sheets.
  • Mix the egg with a bit of water and brush all over the dough shapes, then sprinkle with salt.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with your favorite dips. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days or freeze for longer storage.
