Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar plus additional for rolling
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Ensure butter is softened but not melted
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour all-purpose or gluten-free blend for variation
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar, powdered sugar, butter, and vegetable oil until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until everything is well incorporated.
  • Roll the dough into small balls, then roll each ball in granulated sugar for coating.
  • Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve these cookies with tea or milk. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze them for up to three months. Consider variations like chocolate chips or different extracts!
