Ingredients

For the Tiramisu

  • 1 cup strong espresso, cooled Use high-quality espresso for the best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional) Enhances the overall flavor, can be omitted.
  • 6 large egg yolks Use pasteurized eggs if concerned about raw eggs.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups mascarpone cheese Store-bought is fine, ensure freshness.
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 24 pieces ladyfinger cookies
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce Can substitute with chocolate ganache.
  • to taste cocoa powder for dusting
  • to taste chocolate shavings for topping

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso and coffee liqueur, if using. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  • Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  • In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then fold it into the mascarpone mixture.

Assembly

  • Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
  • In a serving dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers, half of the mascarpone mixture, and drizzle half of the caramel sauce.
  • Repeat layers with remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings.

Notes

To serve, slice into squares or scoop onto plates. Garnish with extra chocolate shavings and a dusting of cocoa powder. Pair with espresso or dessert wine for a delightful end to your meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
