Ingredients

For the cake

  • 1 box cake mix (any flavor)
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs

For the cream cheese topping

  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts) Optional; can be omitted or replaced with chocolate chips.
  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened Ensure it is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1 16 oz box powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, and 2 eggs. Mix until well combined, then spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Stir in the chopped nuts.
  • Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter in the baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake for approximately 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, paired with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. It can be frozen for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the fridge before enjoying.
