Ingredients

Frosting Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened) You can use salted butter instead; adjust salt amount accordingly.
  • 1 pound powdered sugar About 3.5-4 cups.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt To taste.
  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream or milk Optional; can increase up to 1/4 cup.

Cookies

  • 10-12 pieces Oreos or other sandwich cookies Finely crushed.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pulse the cookies in a food processor or crush finely with a knife.

Mixing the Frosting

  • Add the softened butter to a standing mixer or a large bowl with a handheld mixer. Mix on medium to medium high for 3-4 minutes, until the butter is pale and fluffy.
  • Add the powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla. Mix on low for 30-60 seconds to avoid a powdered sugar cloud.
  • Once well combined, turn up the speed and mix on medium high for another 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding milk or cream, mixing for another minute until incorporated.
  • Add the crushed cookies and mix for another minute until evenly distributed.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Let it come to room temperature and remix before use. Can freeze for up to three months; thaw overnight in the fridge.
