Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 400 g all-purpose flour
  • 50 g brown sugar
  • 100 ml lukewarm milk Ensure it's lukewarm to activate yeast.
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 packet active dry yeast To be mixed with warm water first.
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch turmeric For color.
  • 2 pinches ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Sift the flour into a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the yeast with a little lukewarm water and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • Add the brown sugar, nutmeg, baking soda, salt, melted butter, turmeric, and milk to the yeast mixture.

Kneading and Resting

  • Gradually incorporate the flour while mixing.
  • Knead vigorously for about 15 minutes until you have a smooth and elastic dough.
  • Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 40 minutes to 1 hour.

Shaping and Frying

  • Once the dough has risen nicely, form it into small balls.
  • Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the donuts over medium heat until they become golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar, chocolate drizzle, or sprinkles. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month.
