Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, sauté the sliced Vidalia onions over medium heat until they are tender and translucent.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked onions with sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Transfer the onion mixture to a greased baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter and paprika until evenly combined.
  • Sprinkle the cracker mixture over the onion mixture in the baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Ensure onions are sliced evenly for consistent texture. Add cooked bacon bits or sautéed bell peppers for extra flavor. For heat, incorporate cayenne pepper or jalapeños.
