  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Let cool slightly before mixing.
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute with sour cream.
  • 2 large eggs Make sure they're at room temperature.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the melted butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, fresh fruit, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Cake slices can be frozen for up to three months.
