Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 2 chopped onions
  • 2 chopped green peppers
  • 2 chopped celery stalks
  • 1 chopped leek (optional) Optional ingredient for added flavor
  • 1 chopped zucchini (optional) Optional ingredient for added flavor
  • 1 cup diced carrot
  • 2 cans sliced mushrooms, drained

Meats

  • 2 lbs ground beef Can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.

Sauces and Soups

  • 2 packets tomato soup
  • 1 large bottle chili sauce
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 1 large can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup 7UP Adds unique sweetness and flavor.

Herbs and Spices

  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust to taste.

Condiments

  • 2 tablespoons HP sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Heinz 57 sauce

Seasoning

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large pot, sauté the chopped vegetables in butter until they become translucent and start to soften.
  • Add the ground beef to the pot, cooking until it’s browned. Make sure to break it into smaller pieces as it cooks.

Cooking

  • Stir in the remaining ingredients, giving everything a good mix.
  • Turn the heat down low and let the sauce simmer, uncovered, for about 2 hours.

Notes

Consider using a splash of red wine while cooking for added depth of flavor. Adjust spiciness by changing the amount of crushed red pepper. Don't rush the simmering process for enhanced flavors.
