Ingredients
Frosting Base

unsalted butter, softened
Ensure butter is at room temperature.

powdered sugar
About 3.5-4 cups.

Add gradually if needed for consistency.

Instructions
Preparation
Using a hand-held mixer or stand mixer, cream the softened butter on medium-high speed until pale yellow, approximately 4-5 minutes.
Turn off the mixer and add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix on low speed for about a minute until crumbly.
Increase the speed to medium and continue mixing for 3-4 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.
If too thick, mix in milk or cream a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
Serving
Spread or pipe the frosting onto cupcakes, cakes, or cookies as desired.
Use food coloring for special occasions to personalize your frosting.
Storage
Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Re-whip with a mixer before using to restore fluffiness.
For longer storage, freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to three months.
