Preparation

  • Beat the softened butter in a mixing bowl until creamy and smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed to prevent sugar dust from flying everywhere.
  • Stir in the pure vanilla extract and kosher salt until well incorporated.
  • Add the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, and beat until the frosting becomes fluffy.
  • Whip the mixture on high speed for about one minute, then taste and adjust the texture or sweetness as needed.
  • Use the frosting to generously frost your cakes or pipe onto cupcakes.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week, or freeze for up to three months. Thaw and re-whip before use. For different flavors, consider using cocoa powder or other extracts.
