Ingredients

For the Burger Patties

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend) Use high-quality ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened For the butter mixture
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

For Assembly

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For toasting the buns
  • 4 slices cheddar or American cheese Add in the last 30 seconds of cooking
  • 0.5 cup caramelized onions Add for sweetness
  • Pickles, lettuce, or ketchup (optional) Customizable toppings

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with Worcestershire sauce until smooth. Set aside for later use.
  • Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and gently form them into loose patties, taking care not to overwork the meat.

Cooking

  • Season both sides of the patties with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spread butter on the inside of each bun and toast until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Set aside.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high. Place the patties in the hot skillet and smash them down slightly. Cook for 2–3 minutes until a crust forms, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • If using cheese, add it during the last 30 seconds to melt.

Assembly

  • Spread a generous pat of the butter mixture over each cooked patty.
  • Place the burgers on the toasted buns, add your favorite toppings, and serve immediately.

Notes

Best served hot off the skillet. Store cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet over medium heat. Buns can be stored separately.
