Ingredients

Wonton filling ingredients

  • 450 g ground pork
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup fresh ginger, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Soup base ingredients

  • 2 liters chicken broth
  • 1 cup chopped bok choy
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 package wonton wrappers (400 g)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper for the wonton filling. Mix until well incorporated and smooth.
  • Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Add a teaspoon of the filling in the center of the wrapper. Fold it over to create a triangle and press the edges firmly to seal it.

Cooking

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes until they float and are cooked through. Drain and set aside.
  • In a separate large pot, combine the chicken broth, green onions, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Bring this mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Add the cooked wontons, bok choy, mushrooms, and cilantro into the broth. Allow it to simmer for an additional 5 minutes until the bok choy is tender.
  • Ladle the soup into bowls and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve hot with crispy spring rolls or steamed rice. Garnish with extra green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds. To avoid bursting wontons, seal them tightly. Customize the filling with shrimp, chicken, or tofu. Enhance the broth with chili oil or rice vinegar.
