Preparation
Place a large mixing bowl, box grater, and butter in the freezer for 15-30 minutes prior to making biscuits.
Preheat the oven to 425°F and place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet into the oven to preheat.
In the chilled mixing bowl, add 2 cups of self-rising flour, garlic powder, and Old Bay seasoning. Whisk until evenly combined. Set aside.
Use a box grater to grate your frozen butter.
Add the grated butter into the flour mixture and stir until combined. Then, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
Pour in all but a little bit of your milk and stir until JUST combined. Do not overmix.
Baking
Carefully remove the cast iron skillet from the oven and add 1 tbsp of oil to evenly coat the bottom and sides of the pan.
Use a large cookie scoop to scoop out 6 large biscuits into your oiled cast iron skillet. If desired, sprinkle the top of each biscuit with more shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
About 5 minutes before finishing, melt 2 tbsp butter and combine it with garlic powder and parsley.
After removing the biscuits from the oven, immediately brush the tops with the garlic, butter, and parsley mixture.
Notes
Best served warm and can accompany various dishes. Don’t overmix to keep biscuits fluffy.
